Security continues to worsen in the conflict hit North-West and South-West regions. Human rights violations, atrocities continue to be committed by both parties to the conflict. Arbitrary arrest, burning of villages and indiscriminate killing of civilians are on the rise. Women are reportedly used as human shields during hostilities. Those most affected by the violence are civilians including Persons with Disabilities, women, children and the elderly.
The most recent case of these unnecessarily and barbaric violence’s is the brutal and horrible Murder of Florence Ayafor, Prison Wardress in North West region.
The barbaric killing of Florence Ayafor mother of three is reported to have occurred on Saturday September 28, 2019, while she was travelling back from her native village of Pinyin in Northwest Cameroon.
Several reports indicate that this horrible act was committed by a separatist armed group in the North West Cameroon region. A video report analyzed by CHRDA (Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa) is said to show group of 9 men belonging to a separatist group, dragging the victim’s body to a junction and cutting her head off with a machete. (Global Center for Justice and Democracy has seen this video, but its content is too graphic to be displayed).
Since the occurrence of this horrible murder, several organizations worldwide, including the United State embassy in Yaoundé Cameroon; in their October 11, 2019 Press release, have condemned such a barbaric act and has urged Cameroonian authorities to open investigations on this murder as well as other atrocities and to bring perpetrators to a fair and transparent trial.
